This past week, The Rock would return to assist John Cena, The Miz and Jack Swagger in the fight against The Wyatts and would challenge Bray to a Steel Cage tag team match at Extreme Rules. Ziggler would gain a measure of retribution by coming out on the winning side of another Corbin blindside this past Thursday night on SmackDown. Does “The Show Off” have Corbin all figured out? Or will tonight be the night that Corbin takes out Ziggler and becomes the new WWE Intercontinental Champion?

Match #4
WWE Intercontinental Championship
No Holds Barred Match
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs Baron Corbin
Winner by pinfall and STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler (Zig Zag)

The WWE United States Championship is a championship that Randy Orton has just recently won at this stage of his career and he does not intend to release his hold on it so soon into his reign. This is why he won it right back after losing it to Chris Jericho last month at Payback. Orton believes that Chris Jericho feels that he needs the WWE United States Championship to stay relevant. Jericho disagrees. Jericho says that “Jericho IS relevance” and Jericho regaining the WWE United States Championship would be the best thing that ever happened to that championship and to this company. Footage is then shown of Jericho joining up with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. They agree that Jericho is so good, so relevant and such a good champion that they couldn't afford not to have him on their team. Can “The Viper” retain the championship that has taken him so long to attain? Or will Jericho score big and recapture that WWE United States Championship? It would certainly be a boon for Owens and Zayn.

Footage is shown of Brock Lesnar defeating Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship at WWE Payback last month. Since then, Ambrose has been on one turbulent ride suffering loss after loss and dealing with injury after injury. As the weeks went on, it looked like Ambrose's chances to regain the WWE Championship were slipping away. Then The Shield would defeat The Club in two straight matches which seemed to be the revitalization that Ambrose needed. This past week alone, Ambrose was 100% medically cleared to compete and “The Lunatic Fringe” would send a reverberating statement when he laid out “The Beast Incarnate” with the Dirty Deeds on Monday night RAW this past week. The pendulum seems to be starting to sway back to Dean Ambrose's side. Can he defeat Brock Lesnar tonight or will “The Beast” take out “The Lunatic” from the WWE Championship picture for good?

Match #6
WWE Championship
Extreme Rules Match
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Dean Ambrose
Winner by pinfall and NEW WWE Champion: Dean Ambrose! (Perfect-Plex)

After WWE Payback where Sasha Banks won the WWE Women's Championship from Charlotte, “The Queen” wasted no time in picking momentum back up with a big non-title win over Sasha herself and also with an impressive victory over Tamina. However, last week Sasha would dole out another dose of reality for Charlotte in the form of a non-title defeat where Charlotte couldn't even defeat her with the WWE Women's Championship not on the line. Sasha is asking how Charlotte can even think to win the WWE Women's Championship this Sunday at Extreme Rules after that. Charlotte planned on answering that question last Monday night on RAW with a big win over the returning Beth Phoenix but that would not happen as Sasha would attack Charlotte from behind during her entrance and would leave her laying in the ring after a devastating Bank Statement. These two best friends are now bitter enemies. Will Charlotte win back the WWE Women's Championship or will Sasha keep her place at the top as “The Boss” of the WWE women's division?

It all started with respect. It all started when the WWE Women's Champion, Jacqueline said that sometimes it felt like no matter how much of a great champion Jacqueline is right now, people only want to remember someone like Trish Stratus. Jacqueline would add that she has great respect for Trish but she's in this game to be the greatest. Mutated versions of these thoughts would get shared around in the locker room, eventually finding themselves to Trish herself who would take offense to them and would call out Jacqueline on RAW IS WAR. A war of words ensued that ended with Trish attacking Jacqueline before being pulled apart by officials. The following week on RAW IS WAR, Trish would torpedo down to the ring and pounce on Jacqueline with a furious attack. Jacqueline would reiterate her thoughts on how everyone always remembers Trish despite the fact that Jacqueline is the champion but now Jacqueline says that she has no more respect for Trish. Jacqueline now wants to take out Trish and end everybody's favorite female Superstar. Then the only Women's Champion that anyone will ever talk about will be Jacqueline!

Footage is then shown of Jacqueline attacking Trish's opponent before her match this past Monday on RAW IS WAR. Jacqueline would take the opportunity to attack Trish and lay her out with a DDT. Jacqueline wants to take out Trish, retain her WWE Women's Championship and add to her legacy. Trish wants retribution and the gold around her waist!

Kurt Angle '01 has claimed that Shawn Michaels '98 feels threatened by him because he knows that Angle can steal the show better than Shawn ever can. Angle has accused HBK of having an inferiority complex whenever Angle and him are on the same show. Angle surmises that this is what has set Michaels off. HBK rebuts by saying that Angle is mistaken if he thinks that he can just steal the spotlight away from HBK. Michaels continued on by saying that he thought that he was finished with Angle last month at Backlash when he defeated Angle with the Sweet Chin Music and then beat him up some more after the match. Shawn even beat Angle up some more the following night on RAW IS WAR to drive the point home. HBK accuses WWE management of trying to stir the pot between Shawn and Kurt in what Shawn called a dead issue at the time. The following Monday on RAW IS WAR, WWE management had the gall to pair Michaels and Angle together in a tag team match. Kurt would predictably use this as his opportunity to get even when he refused a tag from HBK and left him for the wolves. In the ensuing weeks, Michaels and Angle would both preemptively attack each other prior to their matches. In the go-home edition of RAW IS WAR before WWE Over the Edge, Angle brought a steel cage with him in order to use as an ambush tool against HBK who turned the table on the attack from Angle. The stage is now set for the score to be settled here tonight in Kansas City inside of a steel cage!
