Last month WCW Saturday Night: “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes defeated Tatsumi Fujinami to become the WCW World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time in his career. Fujinami congratulated Rhodes on defeating him but added that Dustin may have beaten the dragon but now to consider himself a true champion he must escape the dragon. He must successfully defend the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in a rematch. A rematch that Rhodes would accept. That championship bout takes place tonight!

Ricky Steamboat '91 talks about how he persevered and defeated Stunning Steve Austin for a huge win last week. “The Dragon” wants to settle the score with “The Dragon Slayer” once and for all . He calls out Stunning Steve Austin for a promo battle and tells a tale about how future generations will tell their children the tale about the “The Dragon Slayer”.

As a surefire way to build his legacy and make his name as something coming from nothing, one man decided that his meal ticket to the top was to slay a dragon. He called himself a dragon slayer without a single dragon pelt to show for it. In the end, everybody remembers the dragon but nobody ever remembers the dragon slayer.

Austin calls that a nice, little story and asks Steamboat if that's what he's been repeating to himself to give himself the illusion of actually defeating Austin in their rivalry. Things get heated and Steamboat attacks Austin prompting a brawl. A brawl that Austin gets the better of.
