Last year, Vader's contract with the WWE expired and he went on to sign with WCW in search of better opportunities. Tonight, Vader has received the opportunity to become the #1 contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Although, Monday Nitro was only relaunched last year, the WCW brand was revived almost four years ago. Bam Bam Bigelow was among the first Superstars signed to the returning brand. Tonight, “The Beast from the East” receives one of the biggest opportunities of his career!

Bret “Hitman” Hart '98 doesn't care about this war between WCW and the NWO. They can battle it out until they have nothing left and only “The Hitman” will be left standing when it's all said and done, and with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship around his waist. Sure, he's been affiliated with the NWO in the past just like he currently technically represents WCW. “The Hitman” is simply here to (1) make money, (2) make sure everyone knows that he's the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be, and (3) whether it be WCW, the NWO or up north, any place that has Bret Hart on their roster is the best place.

The Total Package” Lex Luger has all of the faith in the world in his best friend and tag team partner Sting '99 tonight. However, their company, their home WCW needs a contingency plan in place the NWO still walks out of Dayton tonight with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Lex Luger says that he will be the next slug in the chamber aimed at the New World Order!
