SHORTLY BEFORE WRESTLEMANIA: TJ Perkins defeated the WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann in a non-title match where if Perkins was victorious, he would be added to the WrestleMania Cruiserweight Championship match thus making it a Triple Threat Match also featuring Austin Aries. Perkins went on to exit WrestleMania as the new Cruiserweight Champion.

THIS PAST WEEK ON 205 LIVE: Rich Swann defeated TJ Perkins to regain the Cruiserweight Championship thus making his match at Payback tonight a Triple Threat match against the #1 contender Gentleman Jack Gallagher (who has been scratching and clawing for this opportunity for quite some time) and the now-former Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins!

SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ON RAW: Samoa Joe arrived on RAW as Triple H's “Destroyer”, aiding “The Game” in his pursuit to restore his iron grip on the WWE that he lost after losing to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns at last year's WrestleMania (2K18 version). Earlier this month, “The Samoan Submission Machine” confronted Seth Rollins and told him that he was going to exact vengeance on behalf of Triple H and The Authority come Payback.

THE FALL OF THE FAMILY: It began when Luke Harper revealed his entry in the Royal Rumble match when Bray Wyatt took that as an act of mutiny. Bray believed that Harper planned on eliminating Wyatt, then win the Rumble, then heading to WrestleMania to become the champion and then usurp Bray's position as the leader of The Wyatt Family.

It is because of this twisted point of view that Bray had Harper viciously attacked. Harper would gain a measure of payback inside of the Elimination Chamber when he lastly eliminated Wyatt to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. It wasn't too long before they clashed once more. Only this time “The Eater of Worlds” defeated Harper and won the Intercontinental Championship.

TONIGHT ON WWE PAYBACK: The WWE Intercontinental Champion “The Eater of Worlds” Bray Wyatt meets former Wyatt Family member and former Intercontinental Champion Luke Harper in a No Horrors Barred match, an encounter that both have been salivating for!

That reign would only last about a month as Paige would go on to defeat five other Superstars at WrestleMania to regain the RAW Women's Championship.

There they wasted no time in becoming the #1 contender's for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Will The New Day take the RAW Tag Team Championships to SmackDown Live?
