TONIGHT: With momentum on their side, The New Day look to become dual-brand champions and The Usos look to inform them firsthand that they're no pushovers and that they're in fact not only the best tag team on SmackDown Live but that they are the best tag team in the world.

PREVIOUSLY ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: After defeating Shane McMahon at WrestleMania, AJ Styles was defeated by Randy Orton at a WWE Live event special in April. In search of a big rebound, Styles challenged John Cena to a match at Backlash, deeming a victory over Cena to be tantamount to a championship victory.

Shortly after, Baron Corbin would interject himself and contested that he deserved a match against John Cena more than AJ because “The Lone Wolf” has already defeated AJ, even being the one to eliminate Styles in the Royal Rumble. Thus, the Cena/Styles match at Backlash became a Triple Threat Match involving Corbin thanks to Baron going over the heads of the SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon and the SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan.

Refusing to let this stand, Shane McMahon would reward Baron's treachery with some good, old fashioned McMahon treachery and altered their match once more. This time into a Fatal Four-Way Match also involving Sami Zayn!

PREVIOUSLY ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: Charlotte arrived to SmackDown Live via the Superstar Shake-up and competed against Naomi who looked to prove to Charlotte that the line for title contention started behind her. This budding rivalry was cut short when the team now known as The Welcoming Committee (consisting of the SmackDown Women's Champion Natalya, Tamina and Carmella) attacked Charlotte and Naomi. Becky Lynch would soon join Naomi and Charlotte to even the numbers.

LAST MONTH AT WWE LIVE IN KANSAS CITY, MO: The Rock defeated John Cena and Apollo Crews in another Triple Threat Match.

LAST MONTH ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: Rusev defeated five other Superstars in an Elimination Rules Six-Pack Challenge to become the #1 contender for the WWE Championship, challenging The Rock to a championship match at Backlash.

LAST MONTH AT THE KING OF THE RING LIVE EVENT: Roman Reigns defeated three other Superstars to become the (WWE 2K18) 2017 King of the Ring. Rather than adhering to old traditions and challenging the WWE Champion to a championship match at SummerSlam, Roman chose to challenge The Rock to a title match at Backlash, thus making this yet another Triple Threat championship match for “The Great One”.
