NOTE: The WCW Saturday Night show is set concurrently in late 80s and early 90s WCW. As a result, there are two different versions of the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to be contested: the '88 title and the '91-'93 title. Each title has a different division with different competitors.

Much like how WWE's World Heavyweight Championship (circa '02) was different than the WCW World Heavyweight Championship but had the same design, the titles on this show (and most other retro brands) are treated in the same fashion as their own canon titles. So the two titles on this show have their own lineage and are different from the WCW World Heavyweight Championship that appears on the WCW Monday Nitro brand. Confusing, but it is what it is.

LAST SEASON ON WCW SATURDAY NIGHT: “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship '91-'93, holding the title for a month and not having any successful defenses. Upon his title loss, Dustin Rhodes turned into a rule breaker before realizing the error of his ways before the season ended.

TONIGHT: “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes looks to start over fresh and new by becoming #1 contender for the WCW World Television Championship. A championship he captured last season. A second reign could be just what “The Natural” needs to return to form!

NEXT: After losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship '91-'93 to Sting last season and failing to regain the title, Tatsumi Fujinami is looking to prove himself tonight with a big win over “The Living Legend” Larry Zbyszko who is looking to enter one of the world title divisions this season and add to his legacy by bringing big time gold around his waist and keeping it there.
