LAST WEEK ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: John Cena defeated the #1 ranked Superstar in the WWE Championship division, Rusev to keep his WWE Championship opportunity at WWE Battleground!

Rusev feels slighted by SmackDown Live management for keeping him off of the Independence Day edition of SmackDown Live two weeks ago because they knew that with Rusev around he would exhibit firsthand why Bulgaria is superior. Then John Cena had to skip the line and ignore Rusev. Well, Rusev isn't done with Cena and he wants a rematch. However, he was told that if he wants a rematch against Cena then he would first have to get past a Superstar that has issued a challenge to “The Bulgarian Brute” for a match at Battleground.
