LAST WEEK ON NITRO: Triple H '01 attacked Sting '91 before his match could begin, the animosity between the two rivals apparent with this act of aggression. The champion, Sting, made his perseverance known as he continued with his match regardless, sending a message that it would take more than that to put him down when they clash over the WCW World Heavyweight Championship '88.

Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion '88, Ric Flair '88 claims that he is being ignored by WCW management and denied of right to a championship rematch against Sting '91. While Flair's attorneys work on righting this injustice, “The Nature Boy” will continue to show why he is the greatest all time by calling out none other than WWE's own Stone Cold Steve Austin!
Stone Cold Steve Austin joins Flair in the ring and brings up how Flair was beaten like a damned drum by “The Rattlesnake” when he was the WCW World Heavyweight Champion before asking why he should bother going one-on-one with Flair again. “The Nature Boy” slaps the taste out of Austin's mouth and answers Austin's question by stating that Ric Flair is the greatest of all-time.
Flair says that Austin shouldn't have any fear of facing Flair if he believes he can beat him again. “Naitch” says that if he can't compete for “his” WCW World Heavyweight Championship then he can face the former champ that nobody could beat. Stone Cold held that title for 232 days with ten successful title defenses, and a win over a former champion like that is just what Ric Flair '88 needs and is something that cannot be ignored.
Austin answers by launching an attack on “The Nature Boy” and leaving him laying as payback for the slap from earlier as well as a warning.
