A surly Kevin Owens comes out to the ring and says that since he beat Roman Reigns twice in a row he has earned an opportunity at the United States Championship and he wants it tonight. As a result of Triple H's championship defeat “The Game” is now back on Monday Night RAW. The new United States Champion Chris Jericho appears and accepts the challenge for the United States Championship. Owens says that after tonight he will go from gatekeeper to United States Champion and undisputed “Face of America”. Jericho replies by telling him that the word undisputed only applies to one of them and it isn't Owens. Jericho corrects Owens by telling him that after tonight Owens will go from gatekeeper to homeless man!

Conversely, Cena wants to hold on to his position in the WWE Title rankings to once again challenge for the title.

THIS PAST WEEKEND AT THE WWE KING OF THE RING LIVE EVENT: Roman Reigns defeat all three of his opponents to win the 2017 King of the Ring tournament. He defeated Kevin Owens in the semi-final round, thus obtaining the latest laugh in the rivalry although “The Face of America” would be quick to tell you that his two consecutive victories over Roman should be what the WWE Universe should focus on. Nevertheless, “The Big Dog” is the 2017 King of the Ring!

MIDDLE CARD PROMO

Roman Reigns says that the King of the Ring tournament is a prestigious and beloved cornerstone in WWE history and talks about how back in the day the King of the Ring would go on to challenge the WWE Champion at SummerSlam although that hasn't been a thing for quite a while. As the 2017 King of the Ring, Roman Reigns issues a challenge to the WWE Champion The Rock, his own family, to a championship match at Backlash. This match would become a Triple Threat match as Rusev has already been signed to the title bout.

LAST WEEK ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: The SmackDown Live Women's division was left in a state of flux after Carmella, Natalya and Tamina attacked Charlotte Flair and Naomi last week. The three followed up by ambushing Charlotte backstage prior to tonight's tag team match.

NOTE: With Tamina in the corner of the SmackDown Women's Champion Natalya and Carmella, “The Lass Kicker” Becky Lynch returns tonight to even the odds and corner Naomi and Charlotte!
