Last week on Nitro: Things got extreme when Bret “Hitman” Hart '98 attacked Ricky Steamboat '94 after the match by using a kendo stick! The two rivals will now compete for the WCW United States Championship tonight in an Extreme Rules match!

Also tonight: After defeating The Wolf Pack alongside Scott Hall last week to once again capture the WCW World Tag Team Championships, “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash takes on Sting '98 in one on one action tonight!

Last week on Nitro: The nWo's Curt Hennig defeated Lex Luger with a knee lift in a one on one match. After the match, Hennig would throw away all decency when he grabbed a steel chair and wailed away at Luger with it. Tonight, “The Total Package” is looking to make a big rebound and it doesn't get any bigger than the reigning WCW World Television Champion, Vader. Can a fired up Luger regain momentum?

Pre-Match: Luger awaits Vader who is dragged out onto the stage by Hennig who proceeds to make a bee-line for Luger as the two brawl it out. Hennig eventually ends the segment standing tall over Luger once more.

Show Closer Promo

Before beginning his promo, Goldberg takes a little moment to address FORMER WCW Hardcore Champion Sabu after his comments last week. Goldberg simply says that just one week later, one of them is still champion and the other one lost it the same night that he was running his mouth.

The WCW World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg is ready for a challenge and rather than wait for management to pick one for him, Goldberg is out here to call out Sting '99 as his next challenger for a title match for the main event of Starrcade in three weeks!

Sting has been the franchise player for WCW and now it's time for Goldberg to take him down, take that torch and become the true top franchise in WCW. The WCW World Heavyweight Championship was the first step, now Goldberg needs a win over the face of WCW.

Sting accepts Goldberg's challenge and is honored to be held in such esteem but he warns the champ not to take him lightly because Sting isn't just going to fold over easily. This is going to be one of the biggest marquee matches in WCW history where two of WCW's absolute best will collide and Sting is confident that Goldberg's rampage is destined to be brought to a halt by Sting. If the Scorpion Death Drop doesn't get him the Scorpion Death Lock will.
