Last week on SmackDown Live: WWE Champion Dean Ambrose's match went awry after John Cena attempted to distract him during the match, trying to get into his rival's head. Ambrose would go on to win his match and spite Cena.

Tonight's main event on SmackDown Live: Two weeks ahead of their WWE Championship match at the WWE Royal Rumble, Dean Ambrose will go one on one against John Cena in a Royal Rumble preview match!

Also Tonight: AJ Styles was attacked from behind last week after his match. Baron Corbin had to resort to using a distraction with his entrance music, afraid of facing his rival head-on. Tonight, “The Lone Wolf” and “The Phenomenal One” clash in their tie-breaking rubber match!

Several months ago on SmackDown Live: Carmella teamed up with the SmackDown Women's Champion Becky Lynch to take on The Bella Twins in a tag team match that saw Brie Bella submit Carmella with the YES! Lock. Carmella has had enough of The Bella Twins for stealing the spotlight away from new and better Superstars like her. She also blames the WWE Universe for not causing a groundswell of support for “The Princess of Staten Island”. Every princess needs her crown and Carmella needs that SmackDown Women's Championship. However, right now Carmella wants to get her hands on Brie Bella because she has had enough. On the flip side, Brie wants a match against Carmella not only to shut her mouth but because Carmella is above Brie in the SmackDown Live Rankings.

Two weeks ago on SmackDown Live: Bray Wyatt fed Luke Harper to the wolves in a three on one handicap match. Bray had observed Harper's will to become the Intercontinental Champion as the cause for Randy Orton ultimately becoming the Intercontinental Champion. He now observes Harper's will to win the Royal Rumble match, headline WrestleMania, win the top prize and then assume the mantle of the leader of The Wyatt Family. Wyatt calls that the definition of a cancer and Bray regrets having no choice but to cut the cancer out.

Promo: To date, The Ascension are the longest reigning NXT Tag Team Champions at 43 weeks (American Alpha are fast approaching that record as they currently stand at about 35 weeks as NXT Tag Team Champions). The Ascension think it would be great poetry if they were the ones to unseat American Alpha as SmackDown Tag Team Champions and then turn SmackDown Live into a wasteland with championship reign that eclipses their NXT reign. However, they must get past the Hype Bros.

The Miz celebrates his monumental career achievement of defeating The Undertaker. For those that are calling it a fluke win, he invites them to tune into the Royal Rumble in two weeks where Miz will be the one to eliminate The Undertaker. Then he'll win the Royal Rumble match and once again headline WrestleMania! WrestleMania will once again “go Hollywood”!

Last week on SmackDown Live: Mickie James attacked Naomi before their match, determined to hurt her opponent! Tonight, Naomi finally gets her hands on Mickie James after weeks of Mickie being a thorn in Naomi's side. Naomi looks to dispatch Mickie and then set her sights on Mickie's ally, Alexa Bliss.

On the horizon first though is the Royal Rumble and Apollo announces his entry in the match and would love nothing more than to win another championship opportunity and headline WrestleMania!

Next week on SmackDown Live: The WWE Intercontinental Champion “The Viper” Randy Orton has accepted Kalisto's bold challenge and will face Kalisto next week with the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line! Can Kalisto upset “The Apex Predator”?
