THIS SUNDAY AT BACKLASH: “The Viper” Randy Orton challenges “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship!

LAST WEEK ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: Roman Reigns and Randy Orton competed in two separate matches as they looked to outshine each other leading up to their championship match. Reigns would come out victorious while Orton would suffer an upset loss.

TONIGHT: SmackDown Live emanates from Houston, TX, the kingdom of King Booker who decrees that while Roman Reigns may be the WWE Champion, Roman encroaches on the kingdom of KING...BOOKAH who once ruled SmackDown with an iron fist as its champion and as its king. Tonight the king shall duel with “The Big Dog” that sits on his throne!

LAST WEEK ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: Kevin Owens defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE United States Championship. Afterwards, Owens attacked Jericho and rammed him into the steel steps.

SHOW OPENER PROMO

The WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens once again proclaims that Chris Jericho is finished because of him. He wasn't “The Millennium Man” he claimed to be when he first arrived to the WWE. “The Millennium Man” only lasted 18 or so years. 18 years out of 1,000? Owens calls that pathetic because Owens plans to be the champion forever.

Chris Jericho appears and informs Kevin Owens that over the weekend he was victorious in a #1 contender's match at a live event and will challenge Owens next week at Backlash! Chris says that Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are Kevin's guardian angels tonight because they've instituted a no-physicality policy after Kevin's attack last week. However, at Backlash Jericho plans to return the favor!

LAST SEASON ON SMACKDOWN LIVE: Natalya and Becky Lynch battled it out in a fierce rivalry over the SmackDown Women's Championship with “The Lass Kicker” chasing Natalya for a Dis-Arm-Her vs Sharpshooter Submission Match for the title before Naomi ultimately became the champion.

TONIGHT: Although not a submission match, perhaps a win against Natalya tonight will bring Becky one step closer to her Submission Match against Natalya.

BACKSTAGE: Baron Corbin wants to know why AJ Styles is ranked above him if all he did last season was beat AJ left and right, even eliminating him in the Royal Rumble. Shane and Daniel tell Corbin that if he is truly above AJ Styles then it shouldn't be a problem beating him one more time at Backlash.

Before Baron can continue boasting about beating Styles at Backlash, he is informed that as of this morning there is now a Superstar ranked above Corbin but underneath Styles. Shane and Daniel welcome Buzz to SmackDown Live.

Baron facetiously welcomes Buzz and asks how his back injury is doing after Braun Strowman and Triple H beat him down last night on RAW. Buzz says that the injury is minor and that it won't stop him from taking Corbin down a peg. Corbin suggests that Shane and Daniel have a talk with Buzz about respect before Baron makes Buzz's injury go from minor to major.
