Saturday Night's Main Event
July, Week 4, Year 1
Des Moines, IA
A
little over a month ago on WWE Live '91, Bob Backlund defeated the
WWE Champion Bret “The Hitman” Hart '97 in non-title competition
after involvement from “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. As a
result, Backlund has since proclaimed that this victory means that
Backlund is really the true WWE Champion since he defeated the
champion, but since Backlund hasn't received a championship match, he
has brought in the 1984 version of the WWE Championship to wear
around his waist as a symbol of his victory over the WWE Champion
Bret Hart.
It
wouldn't take too long before other WWE personalities set their
sights on Backlund's prestigious prize as Bobby “The Brain”
Heenan and Haku have made their challenge for Backlund's gold.

The
WCW World Heavyweight Champion '91-'93, “The Nature Boy” Ric
Flair '91 comes out to the ring and talks about how he is the real
world champion in the WWE. He is suddenly interrupted by Sting '91
who makes a shocking debut appearance on Saturday Night's Main Event.
He tells the WWE Universe that he knows all about Flair and tells
them not to listen to this guy because he's always full of it. Flair
makes fun of Sting for following him here and Sting replies by saying
that the WWE fans are sick of Ric Flair so “they” got one of the
only guys around that has what it takes to take down “The Nature
Boy”. He says that “The Nature Boy” has stepped in a bear trap
by the name of “The Stinger” and he's going to pick up that WCW
World Heavyweight Championship. Flair ends the segment by saying that
Sting is the one that stepped in the bear trap and goes on to win the
promo battle.
A
video package is shown highlighting the long and heated rivalry
between “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes and Jake “The Snake”
Roberts '91 that has been rife with sneak attacks, cheap shots and
mind games from Roberts as well as rife with payback and fury from
“The American Dream”. Throughout this rivalry, somehow both
Superstars have managed to attain three victories over each other and
are currently tied. With an inevitable rubber match looming near, WWE
officials have teamed Rhodes and Roberts up in tag team competition
tonight. Will they find a way to work together to act as an unlikely
cohesive force? Or is tag team doomed to implode in spectacular
fashion?

WCW's
Sting '91 makes a shocking appearance and talks about how he has
arrived to compete against the very best that the WWE has to offer.
Longtime
rivals, Bret “The Hitman” Hart '97 and “The Heartbreak Kid”
Shawn Michaels '97 have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry for
several months now. Despite HBK having yet to earn a victory over
“The Hitman” in this current rivalry, he has certainly found ways
to get inside the head of “The Hitman”. So much so that tonight
they will meet in a Ladder Match, arguably Shawn Michaels' signature
match type. Will this match be the one where HBK finally beats Bret
and takes the WWE Championship? Or will “The Hitman” once again
find a way to put HBK away?
