The new #1 contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Dolph Ziggler comes out and calls out the WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews for a promo battle as both Superstars look to get some momentum from the mic before heading into their championship match at Backlash. The promo starts off respectful but begins to deteriorate as the confidence of Apollo and Ziggler begin to clash. The Intercontinental Champion wins the promo battle.

Middle Card Promo

SmackDown Live General Manager, Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring and reveals that in order to beef up their roster and truly be the land of opportunity, SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and himself have signed a crop of Superstars from the past, present and future. One of those Superstars is Bryan himself. Bryan has signed a talent contract and has entered the SmackDown Live ranking system where he sits right underneath another returning Superstar, JBL.

Bryan calls out JBL who is outraged at this conflict of interest when Bryan informs him that he's got a system of checks and balances (from Shane McMahon and the WWE Board of Directors) to make sure that no Authority-esque power trips take place. Bryan's anti-Authority rhetoric offends JBL who promises not to let Bryan or anyone else in the SmackDown Live locker room sully their good name. Layfield accepts Bryan's challenge for a match.

A vignette airs featuring Curt Hawkins. He says “Stop signs say please and thank you to Cut Hawkins”. “As cubs, wolves are told the tale of the wolf who cried Curt Hawkins”. “Curt Hawkins has been known to scare clocks into ticking counter-clockwise”. Hawkins tells SmackDown Live that the time has come to “Face the Facts”.

Show Closer Promo

Dean Ambrose comes out and talks about his challenge to Randy Orton from last week. Ambrose has given Randy a week to think about it and he wants an answer right now. “The Viper” comes out and says that in actuality he gave Ambrose one week to reconsider his challenge. As someone who's been looking for redemption for losing the WWE Championship twice and losing to Baron Corbin in seconds, a match against Randy Orton does not sound like the smartest idea. Ambrose insists and Orton accepts.
