Tonight on SmackDown Live: WWE Commissioner Shane McMahon and WWE General Manager Daniel Bryan have met and discussed The Miz's efforts as of late. Since his defeat to “The Viper” Randy Orton in their months-long rivalry that saw several WWE Legends get involved, The Miz seemed to immediately rebound by defeating Baron Corbin and defeating former World Heavyweight Champion (as well as former five-time WCW Champion) Booker T in Houston last week! Shane and Daniel decide to make an Intercontinental Championship match between Orton and The Miz right here tonight!

Last week on SmackDown Live: John Cena came down to ringside during WWE Champion Dean Ambrose's match against Apollo Crews, determined to get into his rival's head with his distracting presence. This tactic seemingly paid off as Apollo Crews picked up a huge upset victory over the champion.

John Cena comes out and makes fun of the WWE Champion Dean Ambrose for losing against Apollo Crews last week. Outcomes like that are unbecoming of a WWE Champion and Cena assures that had it have been him in that position he would not have failed. Cena would have overcame all of the odds and adds that he has always been a leader that leads by example. That is why he is calling out Apollo Crews and challenging him to a match tonight, so he can show Ambrose and the WWE Universe conduct becoming of a WWE Champion...something that Cena has been familiar with long before the “era of Ambrose”.

Carmella comes out to demand that the spotlight on SmackDown Live be placed on her. She outright refuses to be finished with The Bella Twins and puts them on notice. Many Superstars in the past have used the WWE as a platform to springboard into other avenues. Much like them, “The Princess of Staten Island” plans to use The Bella Twins as a stepping stone to the SmackDown Women's Championship!

Last week on SmackDown Live: WWE Hall of Famers The Bushwhackers alongside Jack Swagger picked up a huge victory over The Wyatt Family.

Note: With Bray Wyatt's recent loss of the WWE Intercontinental Championship and now this loss to opponents that Wyatt deems inferior, “The Eater of Worlds” refuses the notion of The Wyatt Family no longer being feared. They have been seemingly backed into a corner and look to be ready to send a brutal message as a reminder of who they are and what they bring. Fear. What is Wyatt's next move?

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan then wasted no time in capturing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships and turning away challenger after challenger on SmackDown Live as well as NXT, most recently having defeated former SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Vaudevillains just last week on SmackDown Live.

Last week on SmackDown Live, Naomi called out Mickie but was bested in the promo battle. However, tonight Naomi gets her wish as she goes one on one with Mickie James in her first match back in WWE!

Natalya comes out to the ring and gloats about not only defeating everybody's favorite “Lass Kicker” and SmackDown Women's Champion Becky Lynch, but Natalya also defeated a WWE Hall of Famer and former WWE Women's Champion AND Cruiserweight Champion Jacqueline in the very same match. Now there's nothing left for Nattie to do but to call out Becky and tell it right to her face!

Video Package: For several months “The Viper” Randy Orton went to battle against The Miz who employed WWE Legends (Sgt. Slaughter and Jake “The Snake” Roberts) from Orton's old legend killer list. Orton would ultimately defeat every one of them before putting this issue behind him and immediately capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship. However, Miz was also making haste in regaining momentum with immediate victories over Baron Corbin and Booker T. Now fate has brought “The Viper” and The Miz back together again. Only this time, Intercontinental gold is involved!
