My Take: Bellator 191

Bellator 191
Newcastle, England
Metro Radio Arena
Network: Spike TV
Commentators: Jimmy Smith & Mauro Ranallo

My Picks: McDonald, Letourneou, Yahya, De Fries

Fight #1
Heavyweight
James Thompson vs Phil De Fries
Winner by submission in 1:33 of round 1: Phil De Fries (Tap via Guillotine Choke)

My Take: As Booker T would say, Thompson was looking jacked, baby! However, De Fries used his wrestling to eventually get him the choke for the tap out win.

Fight #2
Welterweight
Mohammad Yahya vs Ash Griffiths
Winner by TKO in 3:26 of round 1: Mohammad Yahya

My Take: Griffiths took Yahya down early and had a pretty good looking Guillotine Choke on Yahya who got out of it. Yahya would recover and would use his striking to ground and pound Griffiths for the TKO.

Fight #3
Flyweight
Valerie Letourneau vs Kate Jackson
Winner by unanimous decision: Valerie Letourneou (30-27 X3)

My Take: Good showing by Letourneau. I can't with Mauro though. Latourneau wins and he says "I'm sorry, Miss Jackson. Valerie Letourneau is for real". She breaks her three-fight losing streak here with a big win. UFC didn't have the Flyweight division at the time of that losing streak so she went to Bellator. It looks like she may or may not be getting a shot at Ilima MacFarlane after this.

Fight #4
Main Event
138 lbs
Michael McDonald vs Peter Ligiere
Winner by unanimous decision: Michael McDonald (30-27 X3)

My Take: McDonald left the UFC earlier this year over a behind-the-scenes business debut and he wins here in his Bellator debut but not without injury as he apparently broke his hand at the end of the second round. Not the most thrilling fight.

Overall Thoughts
Kind of a meh Bellator show. However, I did go 4-0 in my picks! It was also a good night for the two UFC defectors (McDonald and Letourneau), just not the most fun fights to watch. However, if you like first round finishes then the first two fights were for you.
