SmackDown Live comes to you live from Cleveland, Ohio. Home of the Cleveland Cavaliers who are currently competing in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. With Backlash in the books, all eyes are now set on Money in the Bank coming next month!

Tonight's edition of SmackDown Live will be a very special Money in the Bank qualifier edition as twelve WWE Superstars will compete in qualifying matches. Win and you're in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the briefcase that contains a special contract for a WWE Championship match to be held at anytime and anyplace of the winner's choosing!

BUT FIRST: This past Sunday night at Backlash, Roman Reigns defeated The Rock and Rusev in a Triple Threat Match to become the NEW WWE Champion!

SHOW OPENER PROMO

The NEW WWE Champion Roman Reigns delivers a celebration speech. This is his second WWE Championship reign (his first was last year where he held the title for one week) and he promises that it will be much longer than his first. He's happy that he got to punch Rusev's mouth as well as mix it up with “The Great One” himself, The Rock, in the same match. So much so that Roman would love nothing more than to mix it up with “The Brahma Bull” one on one! However, Roman knows that he's got a big, shiny target on his back and he's ready for any challenge that comes his way but for now he's celebrating this WWE Championship victory here tonight in Cleveland.

THIS PAST SUNDAY NIGHT AT WWE BACKLASH: The Welcoming Committee (The SmackDown Women's Champion, Natalya, Tamina and Carmella) defeated the team of Naomi, Charlotte and Beckly Lynch when Tamina pinned Charlotte after delivering the Superfly Splash on “The Queen”.

MIDDLE CARD PROMO

Charlotte talks about how fearsome and imposing Tamina is but didn't expect to be actually defeated by her. Charlotte blames herself for underestimating Tamina and somewhat letting her guard down. Charlotte also entertains the possibility that this victory could have very well been a fluke. She won't know for sure unless Tamina comes out to the ring and accepts her challenge.

Tamina accepts and tells Charlotte to expect the same results in their rematch. Only this time, Tamina is going to leave Charlotte so beat up that she's going to be looking like James Ellsworth!

INTERVIEW: Baron Corbin says that he's not afraid of “The Big Red Machine” Kane and as a matter of fact, Corbin plans on putting down everyone's favorite monster. With him out of the way, there's nothing left for Baron to do but to grab that Money in the Bank briefcase and then cash in.

However, the WWE Universe as well as the Superstars of SmackDown Live will come to know that you cannot keep Jinder Mahal down for long because he is “The Modern Day Maharajah” and nothing will stop him from grabbing that Money in the Bank briefcase and becoming WWE Champion!

Zack Ryder gives all of the credit and respect in the world to the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos. They beat the unbeatable tag team from NXT, American Alpha. They beat the current RAW Tag Team Champions, The New Day. But now it's time for The Usos' next challenge and that challenge comes in the form of the Hype Bros.

Jey Uso thanks Ryder for hyping them up but tells him that soon the Hype Bros are going to be the third tag team to be added on that list!

NEXT: Shinsuke Nakamura takes on Dolph Ziggler in a Money in the Bank qualifying match as well as a Backlash Rematch. Ziggler claims that Nakamura was lucky at Backlash but he won't be lucky tonight because “The Show Off” won't allow Nakamura to eek out a win this time. And when it's all said and done, Ziggler will be the one headed to Money in the Bank!

Rusev states that he was neither pinned or made to submit in that WWE Championship Triple Threat Match at Backlash and adds that Roman Reigns isn't a true champion until he beats Rusev one on one. The Rock makes an appearance, telling Rusev to shut his mouth. The Rock says he's got a plan and it reads like this: Lay the smacketh down on Rusev and then face Roman Reigns in a one on one dream match.
