Last Monday night on RAW, John Cena was attacked backstage by Baron Corbin who was looking to make a statement after losing to John Cena on Corbin's first night on RAW. The two would have a face to face meeting on SmackDown where a match between the two was set for WWE Payback in two weeks. Tonight, Corbin is looking to make more statements. This time with a win over “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns!

Footage is shown of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on SmackDown last Thursday night where they were engaged in a war of words with The New Day. Owens and Zayn claimed that the real “new day” was Owens and Zayn as the focal points of the WWE. They would dub themselves the “New Generation”.

The New Generation talk about how The Usos have been a focal point of the WWE tag team division for years and years. Their generation has passed and the “New Generation” has come and tonight Owens and Zayn will beat The Usos and go one step closer to becoming the WWE Tag Team Champions.

Paige is interviewed and gives her take on the WWE Women's Championship match at Payback with Charlotte defending against Sasha Banks and Brie Bella. Paige makes it known that she's got an eye on whoever walks out of Payback as the WWE Women's Champion and she doesn't mind running through all of the women to get there. Emma interrupts and asks Paige how she plans to do all of that when she should be concerned about losing to Emma tonight. Emma says that after she beats Paige, Paige will fall further and further down the rankings while Emma will finally reach new heights in the WWE.

Pre: Before Charlotte and Alicia can lock up, Sasha Banks comes out to watch the match at ringside.

Mid: Charlotte Irish whips Alicia into the corner when Sasha gets her attention from the outside. Charlotte exits the ring to get in Sasha's face which allows Alicia to attack Charlotte from behind and regain the advantage.

At WWE Payback, the WWE United States Champion, “The Viper” Randy Orton will take on Neville for the WWE United States Championship. Also at Payback, the WWE Intercontinental Champion, “The Show Off' Dolph Ziggler will take on “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles with the Intercontinental Championship on the line.

Breezango talk about how much of a big deal it is that they were able to defeat The Brothers of Destruction and advance in the WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament. They still don't know how it happened but they know that the right team won. It's possible that Kane's issues with The Authority in disarray may have led to that outcome but now Breezango are here tonight in the fashionably offensive Cincinnati and they need to focus on their opponents tonight...The Shield. Paul Heyman approaches Breezango and tells them that “The Beast” Brock Lesnar was impressed with how they were able to pull off the giant upset against The Brothers of Destruction to advance in the tournament and would like to be in Breezango's corner tonight to watch the magic unfold all over again tonight. Breezango say that they have to be sure to pick the right outfits to compete in front of the future WWE Champion.

An ad is shown promoting the WWE Championship match featuring the “The Beast” Brock Lesnar taking on the WWE Champion “The Lunatic Fringe” of The Shield, Dean Ambrose at WWE Payback for the WWE Championship.

Dean Ambrose is interviewed alongside Seth Rollins and says that when he gets in the ring with Brock Lesnar, anything can and does happen. All Dean can say is that at Payback he is going to bring a tornado of fury Brock's way and he will do what he did at WWE 2K17's WrestleMania and that is defeat “The Beast” and retain the WWE Championship.
