SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan announce a tournament to kick off tonight to crown new WWE SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions.

Footage is shown of Tyson Kidd defeating Kalisto via pinfall after a Fisherman Neckbreaker last month on SmackDown Live.

Rhyno comes out to the ring and talks about Heath Slater's journey from undrafted WWE Superstar to newest SmackDown Live Superstar. After weeks of struggling to find a home brand, he finally picked up a huge surprise win over Rhyno in what he considers to be a huge upset. Rhyno isn't upset at that loss and tells the WWE Universe to tune in to last week's episode of WWE Main Event to find out why. However, Slater impresses “The Man Beast” with his never-say-die attitude and wants to offer Slater a partnership to compete in the WWE SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship Tournament. Slater comes out, accepts the offer and promises that they will take this tournament by storm and become the inaugural SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions.

Since suffering a defeat to “The Eater of Worlds” Bray Wyatt, “The Dead Man” has been hunting down members of The Wyatt Family and defeated Erick Rowan last week. A cryptic message appears on the tron saying that “The Phenom” hunts for Luke Harper next.

An angry Miz comes out replays footage of Edge attacking him last week and inadvertently knocking down his wife Maryse. Miz calls it ironic that he was goading Edge and trying to make it personal for him but now Edge has made things personal and Miz wants him in a match!

Footage is shown of Alberto Del Rio submitting Dolph Ziggler to his Cross Armbreaker two weeks ago on WWE Main Event. Tonight, Ziggler has challenged Del Rio to a rematch.

“The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose comes out and talks about how he can't get the loss to Baron Corbin from two weeks ago on SmackDown Live out of his head. One moment he was on a collision course with the WWE Champion and the next moment some “Lone Wolf” got in his way. Ambrose misses getting a good night sleep and says that he won't get any more until he makes things rights and takes down Baron Corbin. He challenges Corbin to a match tonight and gets declined. Corbin says that he's already proved that Dean is not on his level and thus doesn't have the time to waste on Superstars like him. Ambrose says that they could either do things the official way or he could beat the tar out of Corbin up and down this arena.

Daniel Bryan comes out and regrets to inform Ambrose that there isn't enough time on the show for an impromptu match between the two as Corbin dons an egotistical smile. Bryan then regrets to inform Corbin that instead they will face off in a rematch at SummerSlam! Suddenly, Corbin delivers a vicious low blow that floors Ambrose. A brawl breaks loose that Corbin gets the better of.

Last week on SmackDown Live, John Cena defeated Baron Corbin and earned an opportunity to face off against the WWE Champion AJ Styles at SummerSlam.

Show Closer Promo

John Cena comes out to the ring and brings up his status as a 16-time world champion. A victory for Cena at SummerSlam would make history for him as the only man to ever break the legendary record of “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair (who defeated AJ last week on SmackDown Live last week in Charlotte, NC). Cena says that he also hasn't held the WWE Championship since the WWE 2K16 season and now he feels his time has finally come back.

AJ Styles comes back and says that although he is the WWE Champion, he feels as though his fight to defend his title feels the same as going into a match and trying to overcome the odds to win. AJ has a lot of redeeming to do after losing the non-title match to Cena several weeks ago to losing to the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair last week. On top of that, Styles has to defeat a John Cena on the warpath and hungry to make history. AJ wants to be the one that denied Cena of that history by making his own with an incredible SummerSlam moment.
